Privacy Policy (English)

This English version has the same content as the French version above. In case of doubt, the French version prevails.

Who we are. The apps published by Siraj (Alphabet Arabe, AsSiraj, Anîs) are published by SIRAJ LLC, the data controller, reachable at contact@as-siraj.com. We never sell your data, we show no targeted ads, and no advertising or tracking SDK is built into our apps.

Data we process.

  • On your device only: progress, settings and preferences; in AsSiraj also period tracking (see below), the private journal, debts, will and emergency contacts. (Your blocked list is handled separately: see “Community” below.)
  • Account: email address, password (never stored in plain text), first name or nickname. Everything else is optional: last name, sex, date of birth, phone, address, city, occupation. Sex and age are used only where needed (same-sex moral support, trusted profiles). For each sign-in, our server keeps the IP address and device type for account security.
  • Automatic backup (AsSiraj): when signed in, app data (progress, settings, learning notes, prayer and dhikr tracking, fasts to make up, zakat, blocked list…) is backed up to restore it on a new phone. Never included: period tracking and its daily gestures, private journal, emergency contacts, will, debts, assistant conversations, “My area”, and the access codes of moral support and book loans.
  • Usage statistics (AsSiraj), per account: app opens, time spent, sections used, hours and days of use, app version and operating system. Period tracking is never included.
  • Leaderboards and games: nickname, avatar and score are visible to other players; multiplayer games, friend requests and nudges go through our server. Friday Joust: its rules are in the app; if a prize must be delivered outside the app, our team writes to your account's email address, and the details you give are used only for that delivery.
  • My Companion (AI): only with your consent, what you write in “word of the day”, your first name, gender and detected mood are sent to Google (Gemini), without your account ID. Without consent, everything stays on the phone.
  • Speech recognition: handled by your phone's service (Apple or Google). We do not receive recordings.
  • Notifications: your device's push token. Prayer, period-tracking and word-of-the-day reminders are scheduled on your phone.
  • Contact us: the contact screen prepares an email in your own mail app; we receive what you write, any screenshot you attach, and your phone's operating system.
  • Purchases: AsSiraj offers no purchases today. In our other apps, payments are handled by Apple or Google (with RevenueCat for subscriptions). We never receive card details.

Period tracking (AsSiraj). Optional. Days and details (flow, colour, symptoms, mood, temperature, notes), the profile you choose to fill in (goal, birth year, situation, pregnancy, contraception, health, school of law), Ramadan fasts to make up and the daily gestures you tick (last 30 days) are stored only in the app's storage on your phone. They are never sent: not to our servers, not to the AsSiraj backup, not to usage statistics, points or leaderboards, not to any AI, not to Apple Health or Google Health Connect (not used). They are also excluded from the phone's iCloud or Google backup, so we have no access to them. Reminders are local notifications (neutral text and hidden on the lock screen in “discreet mode”, on by default). You can require Face ID, fingerprint or the device passcode; the app does not encrypt this data itself, so protect your phone with a passcode. You may export a copy yourself; it is then under your control. Delete it any time in the tracking settings, or automatically after 12 or 24 months; it is also erased from the phone when another account signs in on this phone, when you delete your account or when you uninstall the app (simply signing out does not erase it).

Your location (AsSiraj). Only while the app is in use, never in the background; you can refuse and pick your city by hand. Prayer times and Qibla: your location, rounded to about 1 km, is sent to the public Aladhan service at the time of calculation, with your time zone; your city name comes from your phone's service (Apple or Google), from the same rounded location. Nearby mosques: your location, rounded to about 1 km, is sent to OpenStreetMap (Overpass: overpass-api.de and its public mirrors overpass.kumi.systems and overpass.private.coffee) at the time of the search; a search by name sends only the typed text (Nominatim). The last location (or chosen city) stays on the phone for offline prayer times and widgets. Your location is never stored on our servers, except the ~500 m square of “My area” if you use it.

“My area” (AsSiraj, optional). Your phone reads your location once and replaces it with the centre of a ~500 m square before anything is sent; or you type your city name. We store that centre, the official centre of your town, the names of the neighbourhood, district, city, department, region and country (official codes in France), how the area was chosen, what you agree to show, and dates — never a street, number or postcode. By default others see only your city (with department and region) and a distance rounded to 5 km from the city centre; the option “Show my neighbourhood, within 500 m” (not offered in towns under 2,000 inhabitants) also shows the neighbourhood and district, with a distance rounded to 1 km. Nobody ever sees the stored point. Your area is shown only with what you post in mutual help (your listings, and your SOS to the people alerted): see below. Place names are looked up from the square's centre (never the exact position) by your phone's service and, in France, geo.api.gouv.fr. It is kept in the phone's encrypted storage, outside any backup. Delete it in Profile → My area; an area inactive for 3 years is deleted automatically; anti-abuse traces are deleted after 2 days.

Mutual help near you (AsSiraj, optional): listings, conversations, SOS. Free giving, looking for, services and lending near you, and requests for practical help (food, clothes, hygiene); it requires “My area”, and the sex and date of birth of your account (13 and over). Listings: category, title, text, who may contact you (everyone, sisters only or brothers only), a copy of your area at publication time (city, or neighbourhood if you chose to show it, and the point used for distances: the city centre, or your 500 m square centre) and dates. Members see the listing, your first name, “member since” (month and year), the trusted-profile badge if any, the place and a rounded distance — never your exact position or the point; a “sisters only” listing is visible to sisters only (likewise for brothers). A listing with a phone number, email, link or hurtful word is checked by the team first; a listing about money is refused. Conversations (with a listing's author, or between the person asking for an SOS and their helper): stored on our server to be delivered, read only by the two of you; the team reads only a reported message and its 5 neighbouring messages. Links and insults are refused; phone numbers are allowed. Always meet in a public place. SOS: your request (category, optional words, who may help) and, only while the SOS is open, a copy of your 500 m square centre, used to alert the nearest people first (in waves of 3, then further away); it is never shown and is deleted as soon as the SOS ends. Alerted people are adult trusted profiles (accepted automatically from age 19, with sex and date of birth filled in; the team can remove them at any time) who chose to receive nearby SOS: they see the category, your words, your city (or neighbourhood), a rounded distance, how long your account has existed and, if you are 13 to 17, that you are a minor; they see your first name only after accepting. You never see where your helper is. Notifications use neutral text. An SOS is not an emergency service: in danger call 15, 17, 112, or 3114. Helping: if you are a trusted profile and turn on “Receive SOS near me”, we keep that choice, the SOS you were alerted to and your answers (5 invitations a day at most); your last activity in the app is used to alert present people first. Moderation: report a listing, message, SOS or member, or block a person, from the “⋯” menu; our server checks the report and finds the content and its author itself; a listing reported by three people is hidden until the team decides; reports involving a minor are handled first. The team (administrator and moderators, with two-factor authentication) decides within 24 hours: it may remove content and tell you why (shown in “My listings”), or exclude a member from mutual help for 7 days, 30 days or permanently (the reason is shown to them; they can still read their conversations). Every decision is recorded in an internal history. Blocking cuts all mutual help between you; from an SOS you have not accepted, the person is blocked without their identity being revealed to you. Minors aged 13 to 17 have the same options as adults (post, contact, chat, ask for an SOS) and may therefore interact with adults; they see a safety reminder (meet in a public place, tell their parents) and cannot receive SOS. Mutual help is not open to children under 13. Anti-abuse traces: 7 days.

Community, moral support, book loans (AsSiraj). What you post (help requests, events, announcements, item donations, missions, questions, answers, messages), the mosque(s) you choose and your profile. Others see your first name or nickname and what you post; a help request can be anonymous. Private messages are stored on our server to be delivered; our team does not read them unless they are reported. Before being shown, posts go through an automatic filter or the team. Community rules are accepted at sign-up: zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users; every report is handled within 24 hours, offending content is removed and its author ejected. Reports include your ID, the reason, your comment, an excerpt and, if known, the author's ID and name. Blocking hides that member's content immediately and sends a report to the team; your blocked list is kept on your phone and in your backup, and stored on our servers (Supabase and the community server) so that you are never matched in moral support and no longer receive their nudges, friend requests or challenges, nor their messages and their notifications. Moral support uses the sex and birth year of your account to match you with a same-sex listener of your age or older, requires your explicit consent (which we record and you can withdraw), and is not an emergency service (call 3114 or 112). Listeners: first name, sex, birth year, motivations, availability and team notes. Financial-help requests (reason, optional amount, message, contact) are seen only by the team. Book loans: name, age, address, phone, parent's consent for minors, appointment, messages and loan follow-up. A hash of your IP address limits abuse and is deleted after 2 days.

Legal bases. Providing the service you ask for; our legitimate interest in protecting the community and our books (you can object); your consent for moral support, My Companion, location and notifications (withdrawable at any time). Using an Islamic app may reveal your religion: we treat this information (chosen mosques, religious questions, moral support) as sensitive data, declare it as such to Apple and Google, and only use it to provide the service.

Retention. Period tracking: on your phone until you delete it. Moral support texts: 30 days after the conversation ends (1 year if reported or blocked), unlinked from your account after 90 days, trace deleted after 3 years. Book loans: 3 years after last activity (1 year if refused or cancelled; unreturned book: until resolved, then 3 years, 6 years at most). Financial help: 12 months after handling (24 months if left open). Reports: 3 years. Listeners: while active, removed after 3 years without activity. My area: until you delete it, 3 years of inactivity at most. Mutual-help listings: online 30 days (renewable), deleted 30 days after they end, 1 year if reported. Mutual-help conversations: deleted 6 months after the last message, 1 year if reported. SOS: the 500 m square is deleted when the SOS ends, the rest 30 days after it ends (1 year if reported); invitations 30 days. Mutual-help profile: while your account exists, deleted after 3 years without activity. Exclusions: until they end, plus 1 year; history of team decisions: 12 months. Blocked list: while your account exists. Usage statistics: 25 months. Backup: 3 years without use. IP hashes and anti-abuse alerts: 2 days. Account, profile, sign-ins, progress, leaderboards: while your account exists (sessions expire after 30 days unused). After an account is deleted, its technical ID alone is kept 30 days to check that everything is erased. Community posts and messages: while online or while your account exists. Server logs: 12 months at most. Emails to contact@as-siraj.com: while handling your request, then 3 years at most.

Delete your AsSiraj account. In the app: Profile → “Delete my account”, then your password; deletion is immediate: your data is erased from our servers, then from your phone. If it cannot be done immediately, the app guides you to send us the request. Without the app: email contact@as-siraj.com with the subject “Delete my AsSiraj account” from your account's email address. In-app deletion is immediate; written requests are handled within 30 days and confirmed. Deleted: account and profile, posts, messages and conversations, event and mosque memberships, trusted-profile application, backup, usage statistics, scores, games, friends, nudges and leaderboard nickname, push tokens and pending notifications, your moral-support requests and their messages, your listener profile, financial-help requests, finished loan requests, your blocked list, “My area”, and your mutual-help listings, conversations, SOS and profile; a conversation where you were listening is ended; an SOS you had accepted is relaunched so the person finds someone else; on the phone, all account data including period tracking (device settings such as language, theme, adhan settings and last location for prayer times remain until uninstall). Kept for a limited time: reports you made, without your ID, and reports about your account, with that account's technical ID (3 years); a reported mutual-help listing, conversation or SOS (1 year, as “former member”, without precise place; a mere block is not a report); a mutual-help exclusion decided by the team, with the account ID (until it ends, plus 1 year; permanent: while it applies); anti-abuse technical traces (7 days); a reported or blocked moral-support conversation (1 year) and those where you were listening (per the periods above, text already removed after 30 days); follow-up of an ongoing loan or of a book not returned or damaged (per the periods above); the account's technical ID for 30 days to check that everything is erased; and anything the law requires.

Where your data is and who receives it. Hosted in the EU: Supabase (Frankfurt, Germany: backup, statistics, leaderboards, reports, blocked list, moral support, loans, financial help, My area and mutual help, push tokens, and the link to Gemini), Hetzner (Germany: community server, including your blocked list), o2switch (France: website, contact mailbox, “forgot password” emails, identity relay that forwards only your session token). Notifications: Expo (USA), Apple, Google (Firebase Cloud Messaging). Phone services: Apple or Google (speech recognition, place names). Google Gemini (My Companion, with consent). Aladhan (prayer times, Qibla: rounded location, time zone). OpenStreetMap (Overpass and its public mirrors kumi.systems and private.coffee; Nominatim) and geo.api.gouv.fr (rounded location, My area square centre, or typed text). Content services (Quran.com, QuranicAudio, mp3quran, HadeethEnc, Wikimedia, MyMemory) receive only your IP address. RevenueCat in our apps that offer subscriptions (not AsSiraj today). Transfers outside the EU rely on GDPR safeguards (standard contractual clauses or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework).

Security. Access rules ensure each person only accesses their own data and the team only what moderation requires. Traffic with the community server, Supabase, o2switch and the services above is encrypted (HTTPS). Versions of AsSiraj released before this update still talked to the community server without encryption: please update the app, and change your password if you used them on a public network.

Your rights. Access, rectification, deletion, portability, objection, withdrawal of consent: write to contact@as-siraj.com; we answer within one month. You may complain to the CNIL (www.cnil.fr). Data stored only on your phone is generally erased when you uninstall the app.

Children. Our learning apps suit families and do not knowingly collect children's data without parental consent. AsSiraj's community, messaging and mutual help are not intended for children under 13; from 13 to 17, mutual help is open as for adults, so a minor may interact with adults (with a safety reminder, helpers told they are a minor, and reports concerning them handled first). Book loans to a minor require a parent's consent. A minor may use moral support without parental consent, like a listening service; they are then matched only with team-confirmed listeners and cannot keep in touch with their listener.

Changes. The date at the top shows the latest revision; the app will inform you of any important change.
